Woman kills lech to save daughter

SAMASTIPUR/ARA: A worried, though not frightened, mother killed a historysheeter who tried to make a rape bid on her 12-year-old daughter. The incident occurred at Sahiyar Tola under the Rosera police station in Samastipur district on Tuesday night. Reports reaching Samastipur on Thursday said an inebriated Mithilesh Singh entered the house of Manju Devi, a ward member of Sahiya Dih panchayat, and tried to outrage the modesty of her daughter. Manju's husband was away, and she was attacked by Mithilesh when she resisted his bid. Undeterred, Manju retaliated and hit Mithilesh with a blunt object killing him on the spot. She then went straight to the police station and surrendered. Rosera SDPO Chandrika Prasad said two separate FIRs were lodged on Thursday in connection with the incident. Mithilesh, he said, was in jail on the charges of rape and had been enlarged on bail only recently. "Circumstantial evidence suggests Manju killed him in self defence and to save her daughter from being defiled," the SDPO said. In another incident, a Dalit youth Mushi Paswan was hacked to death allegedly by his in-laws at Betahi village under the Charpokhari police station of Bhojpur district on Wednesday. A native of village Paruhi of neighbouring Buxar district, Mushi had been working in a Gujarat factory and had gone to his in-laws to bring back his wife.
