Minor girl raped in moving car in Delhi

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was allegedly raped in a moving car in the Capital by a person known to her, who was later arrested. The incident came to light when the mother of the 12-year-old girl, residing in Jhwala locality in the Capital, approached the police and informed them about the incident on Thursday morning, police said. The mother of the girl claimed in her complaint that her daughter told her that Raju Paurwal (33), who runs a grocery shop in the locality, had raped her on Wednesday night after taking her in a car on the pretext of showing places. There were two more persons in the car, Manmohan, Paurwal's friend and owner of the car in which the alleged crime took place, and a driver Rakesh. However, police said, it was not immediately clear whether Manmohan or Rakesh were involved in sexually assaulting the girl. Both of them were detained and will be arrested soon, police said. A case has been registered and further investigations are on. Delhi Police statistics say that in a majority of rape cases, persons well known to the victims were behind the crime. In 98.28 per cent of 581 rape cases registered last year, the accused were known to the victims and had been interacting with the victims in normal course of the life.
