NEW DELHI: A suspected hired killer shot a south Delhi businessman in his car on a busy street in Kalkaji on Monday morning. The victim, Arun Gupta, had come out of his house to go to an ATM. Gupta, 47, was shot in the neck by an unidentified man who fired from the driver's side after two motorcycle-borne accomplices of the killer had stopped the victim and engaged him in a conversation. Gupta was the brother-in-law of the owners of Mittal Gardens, Dinesh Mittal and Sneh Mittal. Police are examining all angles but the family has alleged that a dispute over properties and savings worth around Rs 200 crore is the reason for the killing. Police have not confirmed this and remain tightlipped. "Initial investigations suggest that the killing happened due to personal vendetta. However, we are probing it from all possible angles to conclusively ascertain the motive," said DCP (south) HGS Dhaliwal. Gupta owned an electrical equipment shop at Bhagirath Place and lived with his family in the posh E-block row in Kalkaji. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Around 10.30am, two men on a black and red bike came from behind Gupta's WagonR and flagged him to stop, eyewitnesses said. They had spoken to him for barely seconds when another unidentified man, who was on foot, shot him through the window on the driver's side. The window was rolled down. The assailant then shot another round at Gupta when a woman tried to hit him with her bag and all three attackers fled from the scene — the bikers and the pedestrian in opposite directions. Rs 30 lakh looted from cash van In a daring road robbery at a busy south Delhi market, seven armed men took away Rs 30 lakh at gunpoint from a cash collection van and shot the van's guard in the neck besides spraying chilli powder on him and the driver. The incident occurred near a popular coffee shop at Masjid Moth in Chittaranjan Park area on Monday evening. The van belonged to CMS Securities and was collecting cash from various retail outlets in south Delhi on behalf of the firms which owned these shops. The money was to be deposited at CMS's main collection centre in Okhla. According to police, around 5.15pm, the van had gone for cash collection from a liquor outlet and the coffee shop at E-block market in Masjid Moth. Two of the four occupants of the van had gone into the shop while the guard, Suresh Kumar (46) and the driver, Gyanendra (30), waited in the vehicle. A silver Tata Sumo stopped in front of the van and seven people got out.
